This sucker took 7 hours to render.

I can see why it would take 7 hours. is it an IRAY render?

Yes its IRAY and it hates low light renders. :)

7 hours is quite a while. But we know its the architectural :)

just out of curiosity, what rendertime do you get on SickleYield 's benchmark scene with your two 1070s?

I forgot what the time was. It was pretty fast compared to the others.
I wonder if I did something wrong. the rendered picture was quite small.

It is quite small indeed.

LOL yeah.  I know there are differing opinions on this but I have never, not once, found the architectural sampler to be worth the increase in render time.  The new spectral renderer is way more worth it if you want to trade realism for render time (100% subjective opinion).

I´ve asked google about that spectral rendering. Looks great. Is it currently a beta only feature? Couldn't find that information.

No, it's in the latest full DS version.  It's in Render Settings and has its own section now just above Tone Mapping.  The version I'm on is 4.9.3.166 (you can go to Help--About Daz Studio and it will pop up a thing that shows you the version you're on, sorry if you already knew).

Oh my, it's right there and I didn't see it. How embarassing Blush
Thank you. Have to try this. Right now :D

Awesome!

It's the mirror's that made the render take so long I suspect. What are you using for a GPU?

Do you mean the crystal? cause there's no mirror.
Its low light environment with Architectural Sampler on, I probably could have stopped the render sooner but I wasn't around, so I let it render all the way to 15,000 iterations in 7hours using 2 GTX1070.

I see the crystal now. I thought is was Mirrors behind her. I want to get a 1080 ti and possibly add a 2nd one later. I'm using a single 1070 for now.

I thought of getting a 1080 at first but for its price I might as well pay a little more and get 2 1070.
More bank for your buck.

Yeah. The 1080 was overpriced at launch, but it will be cheaper now. The 1080 ti is a better buy because it has 1024 more CUDA cores. The 1070 is great for the price point though. I like to do a lot of test renders, so I would like to have more CUDA cores. 3584 would be nice and then doubling that in a few months would be even better! :)

Make sure you have enough Vram too.
With faster render time you will be tempted to render more complicated scene which requires more Vram!
Without enough Vram you might as well render using CPU.

8gb seems to be plenty. I have only seen between 5 and 6 used up for a larger scene that I was experimenting with. Can DAZ make use of the Vram from both cards? I know it doesn't work that way for SLI gaming. 11gb on the 1080 ti is pretty stout!

I'm running a 1070 on both of my machines, and I've run them out of memory a few times, but it's been on scenes like my "Inspection Time" fav.me/db2hiae that have way too many characters.  That and I render at a huge resolution. I'm trying very hard to tell myself I don't really need a 1080TI

My GTX1070 is 8GB each but my max scene memory consumption limit is 8GB not 16GB.
Daz loads a copy of the same data onto each card.

My GTX1070 kept dropping out when rendering the "Succubus - 36" scene.
There's apparently enough vram but if I stop the render half way and or did some other stuff, it will refuse to use GPU after that and I have to restart Daz. Some times it got so bad I have to restart the computer. Might be a memory leak problem with the driver.

Hmm, and here I was hoping when I get a GTX1070 later this year it would reduce my render times...
